Youth

at Mason First Presbyterian Church

We have a vision of youth ministry in the church...
  • Where each young person is called to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and is helped to grow in a dynamic, genuine and meaningful faith;
  • Where young people are involved throughout the church's life and are able to take risks in a supportive community without fear of rejection;
  • Where young people are educated within their congregations and in institutions both secular and sacred, and are supported in their quest for truth and knowledge in all disciplines;
  • Where youth and adults together as partners create a community which celebrates diversity and cherishes each other's gifts;
  • Where youth are challenged and enabled to respond to God's call to wholeness in their lives and in the world; and
  • Where young people discover and claim over and over again the Good News of God's redeeming and sustaining love.

In the midst of a beautiful and broken world, we have a vision for ministry with young people that unites youth with Christ with all other generations and proclaims the love of God without end. This vision gives us hope for a Church that:

  • is authentic, made up of communities of faith that live what they proclaim;
  • participates in, and pays witness to, the lively, joyful reality of the grace of God for the whole world;
  • helps young people to understand what it means to be saved by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that they will, as God does, view all people with love and possibility;
  • expresses God's boundless love by embracing young people as they are, where they are, and where they could be, inspiring them to share their ideas, dreams and unique gifts with the world and the church;
  • acknowledges and celebrates youth as the keepers of God's world, capable of serving as agents of healing, friends to the friendless, and leaders along the path of Jesus;
  • encourages young people to live and lead with humility, but also with confidence and joy; and
  • accepts that it may be changed, even re-made through the power of the Spirit and by youth's energy, freshness, and vitality.

We are developing and implementing a comprehensive program to enrich the spiritual lives of our middle and high school students, including key program components of study/learning, recreation/group-building, service/mission (within and beyond the congregation), and worship/prayer.
